Help Using This Web Site

Main features of this site are the recipes and the cooking with foods fact sheets. Our recipes utilize low-cost ingredients, gleaned and commodity foods, and other emergency foods. The fact sheets have information on how to store, prepare, and safely handle staples, bulk foods and commodity foods.

This site also contains links to other web sites, including information regarding where to obtain emergency food help, about the food stamp program and much more.

How to Search for Recipes

It is easy to use our recipe database. The search feature can be found on this site's home page and the search page. You can view recipes and fact sheets online, or download them to your computer in Microsoft Word or Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files, which you can print off for later use.

1. View recipes by category. This option allows you to find recipes grouped according to a specific nutrition focus and/or in a format that works best for your needs.

2. Search for recipes by food group. This option features a drop-down menu list of categories of foods, such as "bread, cereal, grains, rice, pasta" or "chicken, turkey, other poultry." Simply select a desired category from this list and the database will return a list of recipes that use those foods.

3. Browse for recipes. This option simply allows the user to scroll through our entire list of recipes by recipe title, from A to Z.
